Ekushey Padak-winning dance artiste Rahiza Khanom Jhunu, also known as Nrityaguru Mata, died at the capital’s Labaid hospital on Sunday morning.

She was 75.

Born in 1943, Rahiza Khanom Jhunu served as the principal of Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts (BAFA), and was also one of the first students of the academy. She was suffering from diabetes, kidney and heart ailments for a long time. Wife of former MP late Amanullah Chowdhury, Rahiza Khanom Jhunu left behind two sons, two daughters and countless well-wishers to mourn her death.

She will be buried at her family graveyard at Bhaluka in Mymensingh today.
