Gaibandha to celebrate World Telecommunication Day

GAIBANDHA: The World Telecommunication and Information Society Day-18 would be celebrated in the district as elsewhere in the country and the globe on May 17 in a befitting manner, reports BSS.
This year’s theme of the day is “Enabling the Positive Use of Artificial Intelligence for All” and the day is celebrated to increase awareness about the positives of communication technologies to public and to make information and communication more accessible to them in remote and rural areas.
To mark the day, district administration has chalked out the elaborate programmes.
Like other programmes, Hackathon (Computer programming) and online essay writing competitions will be held for the students at the arrangement of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL), DC office sources said.
The Hackathon competition will be held at UITS Baridhara Campus, Dhaka on May 10 at 9 am and the students of degree or university level will take part in the competition directly.
The interested students are advised to make online registration at the link page of www.bsccl.com within 5 pm of May 08, sources also said.
On the other hand, the students of class nine and ten under ‘Ka’ group and the students of degree or university under ‘Kha’ group will participate in the online essay writing competition on the issue of Enabling the Positive Use of Artificial Intelligence for All.
The students of Ka group will be allowed to write the essay within 1000 words and the Kha group students within 1500 words and the soft copy of the essay will be uploaded at the link page of www.bsccl.com within May 09 at 10 am.
The winners, who will stand first, second and third at Ka and Kha groups and will be given prizes side by side with awarding the winners of Hackathon competition, said managing director of BSCCL and also chairperson of the competitions sub-committee.
A preparatory meeting to celebrate the day was also held at the conference room of district collectorate building here yesterday with DC Gautam Chandra Pal in the chair, said additional deputy commissioner Muhammad Mizanur Rahman.
